Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • ¾ pound walleye or similar white fish
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • ¼ cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup green onions, chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Set aside an oven-safe serving dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onions in one layer and nestle the fish in the onions. Cook until the onions have softened and the fish is cooked through. Off the heat and flake the fish with a fork.
  • In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese and mayonnaise until creamy. Stir in the lemon juice, paprika, cheddar cheese, hot sauce, and parsley.
  • Transfer the cream cheese mixture into the serving dish and top with the flaked fish mixture.
  • Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the mixture is bubbling. Garnish with green onions and serve with crostini or sliced crusty bread.
