Ham and Pickle Pinwheels are flour tortillas filled and rolled with ranch-seasoned cream cheese, dill pickles, and ham, cut into bite-sized sections. They are a perfect appetizer to serve at your holiday parties and a delicious finger food anytime you crave a savory, tangy snack! I also have Pickle Roll-Ups and Dill Pickle Dip with the same great flavors but without a tortilla!

Ingredients & Substitutions

Cream Cheese: For easy mixing, be sure the cream cheese is at room temperature. If you forgot to take the cream cheese out of the refrigerator, fill a metal dish with hot water and submerge the contents of the foil packet into the water. The cream cheese will be at room temperature in about 5-10 minutes. You can also take the block of cream cheese out of the package, cut it into small pieces, and let it come to room temperature.

Ranch Seasoning Mix: For the most flavor, make homemade dry ranch seasoning mix. Or, you will use about 1 1/2 packets of the mix.

Pickles: You will need about 1 1/2 cups of chopped dill pickles. This is about 5-6 pickles, chopped. Add more or less to taste.

Ham: Although I used deli ham, you could also use leftover ham or lunch meat, chopped into small pieces.

Tortillas: If you feel motivated, make homemade flour tortillas to use in these pinwheels.

Can I Make Ham and Pickle Pinwheels Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can get ham and pickle pinwheels assembled up to 24 hours in advance. Once they have been wrapped, but before cutting, store the filled tortillas in a baking dish, seam-side down. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, take them out of the refrigerator and slice them into sections. If stored longer than 24 hours, the texture may be affected (the tortilla can get a little soggy).

Variations To Ham and Pickle Pinwheels

This recipe is easy to customize and get creative with added ingredients. To the filling, try adding shredded cheese, chopped green onions, bell peppers, olives, or crispy bacon. Just make sure you don’t add too many ingredients and you are still able to roll up the tortilla!

How To Store Ham and Pickle Pinwheels

To store leftover ham and pickle pinwheels, cover them and place them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. However, they are best eaten within a day or two. When serving, do not let them sit out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • To a medium bowl, add the cream cheese, dry ranch seasoning mix, dill pickles, and ham. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are creamy and well incorporated. This makes about 4 cups filling.
  • Lay out the tortillas on a clean, dry work surface. Evenly spread ½ cup of the cream cheese mixture over each tortilla, ensuring the mixture reaches the edges.
  • Roll up each tortilla tightly from one end to the other, creating a compact log. Using a sharp knife, cut the rolls into ¾-inch pieces. Serve immediately.*

Notes

*If not serving pinwheels immediately:
1. Place the rolled-up tortillas in a baking dish and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 2 hours, up to overnight.
2. When ready to serve, unwrap the tortillas and cut them into ¾-inch pieces.
