These Garlic Parmesan Puffs are bite-sized squares of flaky puff pastry, generously topped with a blend of garlic salt, paprika, and finely grated parmesan cheese. Then, they are baked until puffed up and golden. They are such an addicting snack or appetizer! I am planning to make a batch for movie night this weekend–they are a perfect alternative to popcorn! Garlic Parmesan Puffs Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Puff Pastry: I used two sheets of frozen puff pastry (1 box), thawed according to package instructions. This recipe is meant to be easy, but if you feel motivated, you can make homemade puff pastries from my Apple Turnovers recipe.
  • Seasoned Egg Mixture: An egg is mixed with garlic salt and paprika. Then, it’s brushed over the puff pastries for flavor.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated parmesan cheese will give you the most flavor as compared to pre-grated or packaged varieties.

Can I Prepare Garlic Parmesan Puffs Ahead Of Time?

Sure! Once you have the puff pastries brushed with the egg mixture and cut into squares, place them onto a lined baking sheet. Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Then, they are ready to bake when you are ready to snack! You can also freeze the unbaked puffs; they will last in the freezer for up to 2 months. Then, bake right from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.

Flavor Variations For Garlic Parmesan Puffs

These puffs are bite-sized, but there are a few variations you could try to customize your garlic parmesan puffs. Here are a few options you could try:

  • Cheeses: Mix a small amount of shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese with the parmesan.
  • Herbs: Finely chop basil, oregano, or rosemary and mix a small amount into the cheese mixture or sprinkle on top.
  • Vegetables: Finely chop a few sun-dried tomatoes or a small amount of spinach and mix into the cheese mixture.
  • Protein: Add a small amount of finely chopped bacon bits or ham to the cheese mixture.

Some delicious flavor combinations could be spinach and parmesan, bacon and cheddar, or sun-dried tomato and basil. Let me know how your ‘experiments’ go if you try the puffs with other ingredients and flavors!
