Greens Immunity Booster is a bright, fresh way to pack a little extra nutrition into your routine. While I originally started experimenting with wellness shots through my ginger shots, I wanted something that leaned more into greens and citrus for a lighter, garden-fresh flavor. It’s an easy, refreshing shot you can keep chilled and ready whenever you want a quick boost.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Granny Smith Apples: Tart Granny Smith apples provide natural sweetness and a crisp, bright flavor base. I prefer Granny Smith here because they balance the stronger greens and ginger notes, but Honeycrisp or Fuji apples could be used if you want a slightly sweeter shot.
  • Celery: Fresh celery adds a light, refreshing flavor and extra hydration. Chop the celery before blending so it breaks down smoothly and integrates well into the shot.
  • Spinach: Packed spinach helps create the vibrant green color without overpowering the flavor. You can substitute baby kale if you want a slightly more earthy taste.
  • Lemon: Peeled lemon adds citrus brightness without bitterness. Be sure to remove the peel since it can make the shot taste sharp.
  • Fresh Parsley: Parsley adds a clean, slightly peppery herbal note that keeps the shot tasting fresh and balanced.
  • Fresh Ginger: Ginger gives these shots a gentle spicy warmth. Start with about 25 grams and adjust slightly if you want a stronger zing.
  • Coconut Water: Coconut water adds natural sweetness and helps thin the mixture for blending. You can substitute regular water if needed, though the flavor will be a little less sweet.

Health Benefits of Greens Immunity Boosters

These greens shots are fresh, bright, and made with simple, real ingredients. I love making them at home because I know exactly what goes into each shot. Apples provide natural sweetness along with plant compounds that support overall wellness. Celery adds a light, refreshing element and contributes hydration-supporting properties. Spinach and parsley add greens to the shot while contributing antioxidants and helpful nutrients. Ginger brings a warm, spicy zing that may help support digestion and balance the bright citrus flavor from the lemon. Coconut water helps keep the shot light and hydrating, making it an easy and refreshing way to add a little extra nourishment to your routine.

FAQs

Do I need a blender to make these green immunity booster shots?

Yes, a blender works best for this recipe because it helps break down the apples, greens, and ginger. A juicer isn’t ideal since this recipe uses whole fruits and vegetables that need to be blended before straining.

Do I have to strain the mixture through a sieve?

No. Straining is optional. I recommend using a fine-mesh sieve if you want a smoother, juice-style shot. If you don’t mind a thicker texture, you can drink the mixture right after blending. It simply depends on whether you prefer a smooth shot or a more smoothie-like consistency.

Do I need to peel the lemon?

Yes, I recommend peeling the lemon before blending. The peel can add bitterness to the shot, and removing it keeps the flavor bright and smooth.

How much ginger should I use?

Start with about 25 grams of ginger for a balanced shot. If you prefer a stronger, spicier flavor, you can add a little more ginger. If you are new to ginger or prefer a milder shot, you can reduce the amount slightly.

Can I use different greens in this recipe?

Yes. Baby kale is a good substitute for spinach if you want a slightly earthier flavor. Keep in mind that stronger greens may slightly change the taste of the shot.

How to Store Greens Immunity Booster

Store the greens immunity booster in airtight bottles or jars in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, though I recommend enjoying them within 3 to 5 days for the best flavor and freshness. These shots are best served chilled, so keep them stored in the refrigerator until you’re ready to drink. I don’t recommend storing them at room temperature for long periods.

Can I Freeze Greens Immunity Booster?

Freezing is not recommended since the texture can separate once thawed. If you want to make them ahead of time, preparing a small fresh batch every few days usually works best.
