Maple Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes are tender and crispy with a perfect balance of sweet maple syrup and smoky chipotle heat. They are a flavorful, easy-to-make side dish with a touch of spice. If you enjoy the sweet and smoky flavors of these Maple Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes, you’ll love the simplicity of my Roasted Sweet Potatoes! With just olive oil, garlic powder, and a few seasonings, they’re a classic, flavorful side dish I go back to again and again. (Seriously, I think I make them every other week!) Both recipes would be tasty additions to your Thanksgiving menu this year! (Do you know what day Thanksgiving is this year?)
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are packed with all sorts of nutritional benefits like fiber, iron, and calcium, as well as vitamins B and C. In addition, they are a great source of beta-carotene, which is a powerful antioxidant. So, the more ways I can incorporate them into my diet, the better!
- Maple Syrup: Maple syrup adds a natural sweetness that helps balance the spicy chipotle powder. It also helps the potatoes get a nice caramelized coating as they roast, making them extra tasty! Look for pure maple syrup for the most authentic maple flavor. If you don’t have maple syrup, you could try honey, but it will give the sweet potatoes a different flavor.
- Chipotle Powder: The chipotle powder adds a smoky, spicy heat that complements the sweetness of the maple syrup and deepens the overall flavor profile. You can substitute chipotle powder with smoked paprika for smokiness, cayenne pepper for more heat, or a mix of paprika and cumin for a similar flavor.
How To Adjust Spice Level In Maple Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes
To adjust the spice level of these maple chipotle sweet potatoes, follow these tips:
- For milder spice: Use less chipotle powder, or replace it with smoked paprika for a smoky flavor without as much heat.
- For more spice: Add an extra ¼ teaspoon of chipotle powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
These adjustments let you control the heat while keeping the dish’s delicious smoky-sweet flavor profile.
Savory Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes {No Maple Syrup Needed}
If you prefer a savory version of roasted sweet potatoes, you can easily make chipotle roasted sweet potatoes (no maple syrup). Simply skip the maple syrup, and you could add a little more olive oil if needed. To maintain the depth of flavor, I would add a pinch of chipotle powder or a dash of smoked paprika for that smoky touch without the sweetness.
How To Store Maple Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes
To store leftover Maple Chipotle Roasted Sweet Potatoes, first, let them cool to room temperature. Then, transfer them to an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to reheat, you can warm them in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, or microwave them for a quicker option. For a crispy texture, reheating in the oven is best!

I make our roasted sweet potatoes all of the time, and I love them, so these are a wonderfully delicious twist on the potatoes! I love the sweet and savory combo. I would add a bit more of a kick by adding a little cayenne pepper.
Annabelle
These are easy to make. Just a few ingredients, and they turn out really good–a flavorful way to make sweet potatoes (and I am not a huge fan of sweet potatoes).
Bella
These sweet potatoes might be my new favorite side dish! They’re soft on the inside and a little crispy on the edges, with the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.
Selena
The chipotle powder gives these sweet potatoes just the right amount of heat. It’s a great balance with the sweetness from the maple syrup. Super tasty!
