Ingredients & Substitutions

Cream Cheese: For smooth mixing, ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature. If it’s cold, place the foil-wrapped packet in hot water for 5-10 minutes or cut the block into small pieces for quicker room temperature adjustment.

Seasonings: The cream cheese is seasoned with both garlic salt and Italian seasoning.

Tortillas: You could use store-bought tortillas (I used the 8-inch size). Or, make homemade flour tortillas to use!

Cheese: I added slices of mozzarella cheese to the pinwheels. Provolone would be a delicious option, too!

Meats: Look for thinly sliced deli ham, salami rounds, and pepperoni to add to the tortillas. You could also add prosciutto, which would be fantastic! If you love this combination of meats, I also have Italian Sliders you will want to try!

Giardiniera: Giardiniera is an Italian relish with pickled veggies in vinegar or oil. I used the American-Italian ‘Chicago Style,’ which has added hot peppers for some spiciness. You can pick mild or hot. Look for it with other condiments in your grocery store. Chop up the mixture into smaller pieces to add to the tortillas. Chopped pepperoncini would also be a tasty addition if preferred.

Can I Make Italian Pinwheels Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can get Italian pinwheels assembled up to a day in advance. After they have been placed in a shallow dish, uncut, cover the dish with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, take them out of the refrigerator and slice them into sections. If stored longer than 24 hours, the texture may be affected (the tortilla can get a little soggy).

How To Store Italian Pinwheels

Italian Pinwheels should be stored in the refrigerator, and covered. They are best enjoyed within a day or two but can be stored for up to 3 days. When serving, do not let them sit out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
