Today’s Daily Activity Challenge #7 is an idea I got from the Wikki Stix site. They have a lot of great ideas once you get your hands on Wikki Stix, and I highly recommend you do! They are pieces of waxed yarn that sticks to most surfaces (but doesn’t leave a mess) and can be used again! Wikki Stix are considered a great tool to use for STEM or STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). They are also a wonderful tool to have on hand for a variety of activities from practicing spelling words to building things.

Daily Activity Challenge #7: Make A Move {with Wikki Stix}

I am reusing the Wikki Stix I used from yesterday’s Daily Activity Challenge. Yesterday, I used them to make mazes and today is about using them with other materials to create a ‘moveable’ machine. This ‘Make A Move’ Challenge gives participants just a few supplies to build something that can move in real life (an animal, a machine, a vehicle, etc.). Participants can use one, two, or all of the supplies given.

Materials: (per person or team, inside a paper bag)

  • Paper Bag
  • 15 Wikki Stix
  • 4 Toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls, as long as each person gets the same items)
  • 4 Disposable cups
  • Scissors

Object of the Activity: Using only the materials in the paper bag, design a ‘moveable’ object.

How to Play: This activity can be done by individuals or in teams. I like the team aspect of it for the collaboration piece. Each individual or team must create a moveable object using as many items in the bag (and even the bag itself, but don’t give that away) to create an object that can move. Give 25 minutes for the challenge.

Skills Used: Collaboration, Team-building, Engineering, Creativity, Problem-solving
