This Loaded Shredded Beef Fries recipe combines the classic crispiness of steak fries with the bold, savory flavors of beef. And, of course, we can’t forget about all the delicious toppings! The meat is slow-cooked, shredded, (my lazy man’s Birria recipe), and placed on top. Then we add melted cheese, onions, tomato, jalapeno pepper, cilantro, sour cream, and queso fresco. Oh, and we can’t forget about the beef juice for drizzling! This recipe is a great way to enjoy a Mexican-inspired recipe at home.
Ingredients & Substitutions
Fries: Look for frozen steak fries. Follow the package instructions when cooking the fries. Regular frozen fries or crinkled fries would also work. We like them done extra crispy, so we usually add a few minutes to the cooking time. Roasted potato wedges would also be delicious in this recipe.
Shredded Beef: If you don’t want to make your own shredded beef, you can find it precooked at some supermarkets. I recommend something like this, Hormel Beef Roast Au Jus. This is not as flavorful as the homemade, but you can always add more seasoning. You can also purchase Birria meat, which may be packaged as a stew or shredded.
Cheese: I prefer Monterey Jack cheese. However, you could certainly use your favorite kind of cheese or a blend of cheeses. I did include a range for the amount of cheese; that is all about how cheesy you want the fries.
Garnish: Keep your options open when it comes to garnishing the loaded fries. I add onion, tomato, jalapeno, cilantro, sour cream, and queso fresco to get you started. Try adding even more toppings like black beans, guacamole, green onions, and a splash of lime, too!
Keep Your Loaded Fries Warm and Crispy
Here are our top tips for ensuring your loaded shredded beef fries are a hit at your next event:
- Preheat your oven to 250°F and place the loaded fries on a baking sheet. Cover them with aluminum foil and heat them in the oven for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will ensure that the fries stay warm and crispy while you’re getting ready to serve.
- Keep the fries in the oven and the shredded beef on the stovetop. This will keep both the fries and meat hot until it’s time to eat.
- Use an insulated carrier or heated bag to transport the loaded fries. This will keep them warm during transportation to your party or event, so they are still hot and crispy when you arrive at the destination.
How to Store Shredded Beef French Fries
Although these fries are best served immediately, don’t let the leftovers go to waste. Once they have been cooled completely, store them in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the oven for the best results. If using a microwave for reheating, the fries will end up soggy.
