Bang Bang Chicken Dip is rotisserie chicken mixed with cream cheese, bang bang sauce, and mozzarella cheese, then baked in an oven-safe skillet until bubbly and golden around the edges. After baking, I like to top it with fresh chives and drizzle with Sriracha for a burst of color, flavor, and a little heat. Serve it warm with tortilla chips for an appetizer that will be the first to be devoured! If you love the flavors of this dip, you will definitely want to try my popular Bang Bang Chicken Skewers, too!
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Chicken: Using rotisserie chicken makes this recipe quicker and easier because it’s already cooked and ready to use. It saves time on prep, so you can focus on mixing the ingredients and baking the dip! (The faster I can ‘dip into’ this dip, the better!) Any leftover cooked chicken, like my shredded chicken, would work, too.
- Cream Cheese: Before making this dip, let the block of cream cheese come to room temperature. This makes it softer and easier to mix.
- Bang Bang Sauce: For the most flavorful sauce you can adjust to your desired heat level, make homemade Bang Bang sauce! However, store-bought sauce works just as well if you are short on time.
- Mozzarella: The shredded mozzarella cheese is mixed into the dip and sprinkled on top before baking in the oven. You can try using other cheeses like cheddar, provolone, or a blend of cheeses for a different flavor profile. Just make sure the cheese melts well.
- Chives: Adding chives gives the dip a pop of color and a fresh, onion-like flavor that brightens it up. If you don’t have chives, you can also use green onions, parsley, or cilantro for a similar effect.
- Sriracha: After testing this bang bang chicken dip with and without the Sriracha on top, all the taste testers agreed to make the Sriracha a part of the recipe. It adds just a hint more flavor and a little heat that is the finishing touch (or should I say, ‘finishing taste’) for the dip. Add as much or as little as you prefer!
Can You Make Bang Bang Chicken Dip Ahead Of Time?
Yes, you can make the dip ahead of time! Prepare the dip up to the point of baking it. Then, cover it tightly, and store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 day before baking. When ready to bake, just pop it in the oven as usual!
How To Serve Bang Bang Chicken Dip: Best Dipping Options
If you are looking for the perfect way to serve this dip, here are a few of my favorites that will make the Bang Bang Chicken Dip even better:
- Tortilla Chips or Pita Chips
- Crackers
- Toasted Baguette (Crostini)
- Vegetable Sticks (I love the dip with carrots and celery!)
- Pretzels
Can You Make Chicken Dip Without An Oven-Safe Skillet?
Sure! If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, make the dip in an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish. Or, you can use a pie dish or a small casserole dish. Just make sure the dish you use is oven-safe, and follow the same baking instructions.
Can You Make Bang Bang Chicken Dip With Other Proteins Besides Chicken?
Yes, you can use other proteins in this dip! You can try shredded turkey, cooked shrimp, or even tofu if you want a plant-based option. Just make sure the protein is already cooked, and follow the same baking steps!
How To Store & Reheat Bang Bang Chicken Dip
To store this Bang Bang Chicken Dip, first, let it cool to room temperature. Next, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 3-4 days. Reheat it in the oven or microwave before serving. I do not recommend freezing this dip.
