Bang Bang Sauce is a creamy, mayonnaise-based sauce that is spicy and slightly sweet, perfect for pairing with fried shrimp, or chicken, or used as a dipping sauce. And, it is made with just four ingredients! I have used the homemade sauce with my popular Bang Bang Chicken Skewers, Bang Bang Shrimp, Bang Bang chicken, and Bang Bang salmon, to name a few delicious ways!

Ingredients & Substitutions

Mayonnaise: The base of the sauce is mayonnaise. If you don’t have any on hand, make homemade mayonnaise! If looking for a lighter version, try using low-fat mayonnaise or Greek yogurt as the base.

Sweet Chili Sauce: Thai sweet chili sauce gives the sauce a little sweetness with a little bit of heat. It is also delicious to have on hand for other recipes like my sweet chili chicken and crab rangoon nachos.

Honey: Honey adds a layer of sweetness to balance the creamy and spicy parts of the sauce. If you prefer the sauce to be more on the sweeter side, add more honey.

Sriracha: Sriracha gives the sauce more of a spicy kick. You can add more (or use less), depending on how much heat you can handle! Other hot sauces can be used in place of sriracha, such as Tabasco or Frank’s Red Hot, but adjust the quantity to match the desired heat level.

Variations To Bang Bang Sauce

There are some variations of this recipe you could try. Here are some options:

  • Add lemon juice: Adding lemon juice can brighten the sauce and cut through some of the creaminess with the acidity.
  • Use rice wine vinegar: If you prefer a tangier sauce, substitute the honey with rice wine vinegar. This gives the sauce a slight tartness to each bite.
  • Add minced garlic: Adding garlic will give the sauce even more depth of flavor. Start with about 1/2 teaspoon and adjust per taste.
