Are you looking for a quick and tasty dinner idea that the whole family will love? This delicious Dorito Taco Pie is a flaky pie crust filled with seasoned ground beef, onions, and two kinds of cheese! Baked until golden brown and bubbly, it is topped with crushed nacho cheese Doritos for extra flavor and a satisfying crunch! Serve it with your favorite taco toppings as the main course or for a game-day appetizer! If you love this Dorito taco pie (which you AND your kids will), you will want to try my Taco Lasagna, too!
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Pie Crust: Look for one store-bought pie crust, or make a homemade pie crust to use. I have a no-fail recipe that you will want to use for all of your pie recipes, from hot to cold pies! I also have an all-butter pie crust, if preferred. Place the unbaked pie crust into a pie dish.
- Ground Beef: I used 2 pounds of ground beef for the taco pie. Try lean ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey for a leaner option.
- Taco Seasoning: For the most flavor, make homemade taco seasoning! Or, use a couple of packets of seasoning (about 1/4 cup total).
- Cheese: The more cheese, the better (I think)! Sprinkle the top of the ground beef mixture with both Monterey Jack and mild cheddar cheese. You could use a blend of your favorite cheeses.
- Doritos: The star of the recipe is the nacho cheese Doritos! I love the flavor and crunch they bring to each bite. Adding the Doritos makes the taco pie almost like a walking taco in a baked form.
Make Ahead Dorito Taco Pie
It’s easy to get this taco pie assembled a day in advance so it is ready to pop in the oven when you are ready for dinner! First, cook the ground beef, onions, and seasonings, allowing the mixture to cool slightly. Next, place the unbaked pie crust in a dish, then layer the beef mixture and shredded cheese. Finally, cover tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate if you plan to bake it within 24 hours.
Delicious Toppings For Dorito Taco Pie
This taco pie recipe is delicious as-is, but if you want to add some toppings, choose your favorites! Here are a few options I like to offer when serving this taco pie:
- Roasted salsa
- Sour cream
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
- Chopped cilantro
- Jalapeno peppers
- Black olives
How To Store Dorito Taco Pie
If you have any leftover Dorito taco pie (which I doubt you will), it’s best to store it without Dorito’s chips on top, if possible. Once the taco pie has cooled to room temperature, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 3-4 days. Reheat it in the oven or microwave. Then, add a few more crushed Doritos!
Dorito Taco Pie
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked (9-inch) pie crust, homemade or store-bought
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced (about ½ cup)
- 2 packets (1 ounce each) taco seasoning, about ¼ cup
- ½ cup water
- 1 cup (113 g) Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 1 cup (113 g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup crushed Nacho Cheese Doritos
Optional Toppings
- salsa
- sour cream
- tomatoes, diced
- lettuce, shredded
- cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the pie crust dough into a circle a little larger than a 9-inch pie plate. Place the rolled-out dough into the pie plate, cutting away any excess crust. Flute or crimp the edges and place the crust in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
- To a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and onion. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it up as you go, and the onion is softened (8-10 minutes). Drain excess grease.
- To the skillet with the beef and onion, add taco seasoning and water. Stir to combine and until the water is absorbed.
- Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over the pie crust. Top with both cheeses.
- Bake for 22-27 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven. Top with crushed Doritos.
- Serve with salsa, sour cream, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and cilantro.
