Ingredients & Substitutions

Salmon: Look for 1 1/2 pounds of salmon. I ended up using four filets with the skin removed. Cut the salmon into equal-sized pieces for even cooking. Season the salmon with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. If using frozen salmon, let it thaw before cutting it into pieces.

Hot Honey: Hot honey is a sweet and spicy condiment that is delicious on many foods, including salmon! Homemade or store-bought would work for this recipe. Heat it with unsalted butter for the sticky glaze!

Adjusting Spice Level

You can adjust the spice level of hot honey in a few ways. if you want less of a kick, use less sauce. Or, substitute regular honey for the hot honey. If you want more heat, add a few drops of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the hot honey until it reaches your desired level of spice.

Here are a few serving suggestions for the salmon bites:

  • Serve as an appetizer by placing the bites onto a platter with toothpicks for easy serving. Offer some extra hot honey for drizzling.
  • Pair the hot honey salmon bites with sides like roasted vegetables, rice, mashed potatoes, or salad.
  • Use the bites as a filling for tacos or wraps with your favorite toppings.
  • Create salmon bowls by serving the salmon bites over a base of cooked grains like rice or quinoa, along with assorted vegetables, greens, and your favorite toppings. Drizzle with extra hot honey sauce for added flavor!

How To Store Hot Honey Salmon Bites

To store the salmon bites, first, let the salmon cool to room temperature. If possible, separate the sauce from the salmon to store separately. Then, store the salmon and hot honey in airtight containers in the refrigerator. They will last a couple of days. Reheat the bites in the oven, microwave, or air fryer.

What the Test Kitchen had to say about this recipe:

Autumn

I really loved these! The hot honey makes these sweet and spicy, which is such a delicious combination!

Elizabeth

I enjoyed an entire plateful of these salmon bites! They had a subtle crispiness to them, and the hot honey glaze just took the flavor to the next level. I will take all the ways to cook salmon I can get, and this might be one of my favorites!

Rachael

Air fryer salmon is just a game-changer. It crisps up perfectly on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. The hot honey went great with it. I would add some more heat with more chili flakes, but it was really good.

Bella

I love salmon, but I am not a fan of hot honey. Though, it is a straightforward recipe if you are looking for an easy and fulfilling meal!

Selena

I am not a huge fan of salmon so I was surprised by how much I liked this! I liked how crispy it got in the air fryer and the subtle sweetness and heat from the hot honey really made it delicious.

This was really good and my grandkids gobbled it up. Mostly I am leaving this reply to thank you for giving both instructions (for the air fryer and the oven).
