Wingstop Copycat Voodoo Fries are crispy Cajun-seasoned fries smothered in a rich, creamy cheese sauce made with homemade Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and a touch of paprika. Traditionally, a drizzle of ranch dressing is the finishing touch on these Louisiana Voodoo Fries, but I didn’t stop there! I added crumbled bacon and jalapeño peppers to bring an extra crunch and a little heat to each addictive bite. What Are Voodoo Fries?

Voodoo Fries are a Louisiana-inspired dish made with crispy French fries seasoned with Cajun seasoning and smothered in a creamy cheese sauce. These fries are popular at Wingstop restaurants for their bold, spicy flavors, which pair perfectly with their wings. The name “Voodoo Fries” likely comes from the mysterious, addictive kick of Cajun seasoning—almost like magic, making you want to keep eating them!

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • French Fries: Look for plain, unseasoned frozen french fries. This allows the Cajun seasoning to shine, which is what the Voodoo fries are known for. If you want to add a personal touch to the dish, make homemade air fryer french fries. Or, try the cheese sauce on top of my roasted potato wedges. Those would be amazing!
  • Cajun Seasoning: Wingstop is known for its bold Cajun seasoning, and my homemade Cajun seasoning holds its own among the best! I use it to season both the fries and the cheese sauce, adding an extra layer of flavor. So grab your spices and whip up a batch—it’s perfect for this recipe and all your other Cajun-inspired dishes!
  • Cheese: For the cheese sauce, I used sharp cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese. The cheddar gives it a rich, tangy flavor, while the pepper jack adds a little kick of spice. If you don’t have these cheeses, you can easily swap them out! You can use any mild cheddar instead of sharp cheddar, or if you want less spice, try Monterey Jack instead of pepper jack. The sauce will still be creamy and delicious!
  • Toppings: Ranch dressing is a popular option to top these fries, as it helps balance out the spice. Besides the ranch, I love to load up the fries with crispy bacon (check out how to bake bacon), jalapeño peppers, and chives—but feel free to customize the toppings to your liking! Are Wingstop Copycat Voodoo Fries Spicy?

I didn’t think the voodoo fries were too spicy, and I’m not a huge fan of spicy food myself. The Cajun seasoning adds a good flavor, but it’s not overwhelming—especially if you skip the jalapeños! The cheese sauce helps balance it out, giving it a rich, creamy taste without too much heat.

  1. Shredded chicken or pulled pork
  2. Chopped tomatoes

  4. Sour cream
  5. Hot sauce
  6. Lemon or lime zest
  7. Crispy fried onions (Make homemade fried onions from my Crispy Onion Scalloped Potatoes.)

How To Store & Reheat Wingstop Copycat Voodoo Fries

If possible, store the fries and cheese sauce separately. (If you know you will have leftovers, only add the cheese sauce you need for your portion.) Once cooled, store both the fries and the cheese sauce in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat the fries in an air fryer or oven, and warm the cheese sauce on the stovetop over low heat. You can store everything together, but the fries may lose some crunch (though they will still be delicious!). Reheat in the oven or air fryer to bring back some crispiness before serving.

Ingredients

Fries

Voodoo Cheese Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (184 g) whole milk
  • ½ cup (56.5 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup (56.5 g) pepper jack cheese, shredded
  • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pinch paprika
  • salt, to taste

Optional Toppings

  • 6 slices thick cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 large jalapeno, seeded and diced
  • ¼ cup green onions, sliced
  • ¼ cup (60 g) ranch dressing

Instructions

  • Preheat oven. Bake frozen French fries according to package instructions until golden and crispy.
  • Remove the fries from the oven and immediately toss them with Cajun seasoning (I added the seasoning directly to the pan). Then, transfer the seasoned fries to a large serving platter and tent them loosely with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Slowly add milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Stir until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Stir in Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Remove from heat and add the shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese, a little at a time, stirring after each addition until melted and smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Drizzle the warm fries with cheese sauce.
  • Top with crumbled bacon, jalapeños, and green onions. Finish with a drizzle of ranch dressing. Serve hot.
