This awesome Creamy Honey Mustard Sauce is like sweet honey meets tangy! It’s a ‘chicken dippin’ sauce‘ that you will want to dip all of your chicken (and more) into from chicken nuggets to chicken tenders to chicken strips! So, get this made and get dippin’!
Ingredients & Smart Substitutions
- Mayonnaise: For the creamy base of the sauce, I used mayonnaise. If you don’t have any on hand, make homemade mayonnaise to use! Or, for a lighter sauce, use plain Greek yogurt as the base.
- Ketchup: Ketchup adds a touch of sweetness to the sauce. If you prefer the sauce to be a little less sweet, just leave it out.
- Honey: To help balance the tanginess of the mustard, I added honey. You could substitute maple syrup for the honey, but it will change the overall flavor of the sauce.
- Dijon Mustard: Dijon mustard adds tanginess and just a subtle bit of heat. Yellow mustard can also be used.
- Worcestershire Sauce: If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, use soy sauce. Or, leave it out.
- Garlic Powder: If you want a more pronounced garlic flavor, use minced garlic (1-2 cloves) instead of garlic powder.
- Red Pepper Flakes: It is up to you if you add red pepper flakes, also called crushed red pepper. The more you add, the spicier the sauce will be!
How To Use Creamy Honey Mustard Sauce
Yes, this is known as a ‘chicken dippin’ sauce’, but it is versatile and delicious enough to use in a variety of ways, more than just for chicken! Here are some options:
- Dipping Sauce: Perfect for dipping chicken tenders, nuggets, or strips, of course. But, I also love it for dipping air fryer french fries, vegetables, pretzels, onion rings, or cheese sticks!
- Sandwich Spread: Use it as a spread for sandwiches, wraps, or burgers for an extra layer of flavor.
- Salad Dressing: Thin the sauce with a bit of water or vinegar to create a delicious dressing for salads or coleslaw.
- Marinade: Use it as a marinade for chicken, pork, or seafood before grilling or baking.
- Glaze: Brush it onto grilled or roasted meats during the last few minutes of cooking for a flavorful glaze.
- Topping: Drizzle it over grilled vegetables, baked potatoes, or roasted sweet potatoes for added flavor.
