Roasted Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese

It’s a jalapeno popper; no, it’s a grilled cheese sandwich; I got it…it’s a Roasted Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese! This sandwich gives you the flavors of the popular appetizer and grilled sandwich, all in one. If you love the flavor combination of jalapeno poppers, I also have jalapeno popper wontons, mushrooms, quesadillas, and rolls you will love!

Grilled Cheese Ingredients

Jalapeno Peppers: The peppers are roasted before being added to the cream cheese mixture. For a hotter pepper and a little more kick to each sandwich, look for jalapenos with white stretch marks on them. For another delicious sandwich with roasted jalapenos, try my Jalapeno Ham Grilled Cheese, too!

Bacon: Cook the bacon until nice and crispy. I recommend baking bacon to save on the mess. To bake bacon, simply place the strips of bacon onto an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Bake at 415°F for 18-20 minutes, or until they are done to your desired crispiness.

Bread: I love using Texas Toast for its extra thickness! Go big or go home…wait, you are probably at home making these, so just go big with the bread!

Do I Have to Roast the Jalapeno Peppers?

No, you don’t have to roast the jalapeno peppers before mixing them into the cream cheese mixture. However, I would encourage you to take that extra step. Roasting the peppers will give them a slightly milder flavor. Plus, it brings out a little smokiness to the mixture. Need I say more?

Can I Use Different Kinds of Bread?

Definitely! As I stated above, I love the thick cut of Texas Toast. But, you could use your favorite kind of bread, for sure. Cooking time could vary, depending on the thickness of the slices of bread you use.

Can I Make Roasted Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese in an Air Fryer?

You can! You can also roast the jalapeno peppers in an air fryer. To roast the peppers in an air fryer, brush them with olive oil (like you were going to roast them in the oven). Then, place them in a single layer in the basket of your air fryer and roast for 7 minutes at 425°F.
For the grilled cheese, preheat an air fryer to 350°F and line the basket with parchment paper. Prepare the sandwich following the instructions below. Then, air fry for 5 minutes. Flip the sandwiches over, and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately.

  1. Any suggestions on what to have with this? I’m going to make them for dinner next week but would like to make something with it, thank you!!

    1. Anything you would enjoy with grilled cheese! 🙂 Chips, french fries, salad, soup, you name it.

We did this a little differently. We used jarred Jalapeno’s and grilled then instead of roasting them. We also used wheat bread instead of Texas toast. 10/10 recommend them. My 11 year old who hates spicy even ate them!

Someone has stolen your jalapeno popper grilled cheese sandwich recipe and photos and is using them on Facebook on a fake page that they created with Ina Garten’s name.

I made these tonight and O-M-G!!! I already knew my husband and I would love it, but when our picky teenage boys DEVOURED it…I knew this was something to be added to the menu rotation for sure! 10 out of 10!

I doubled the recipe and made them in the air fryer and they were absolutely perfect (I’ve never been able to master the bread on a grilled cheese lol).

I made this for our supper tonight & it was outstanding! The cream cheese mixture with the roasted jalapeno’s was just amazing! We all kept saying, “mmmm, mmmmm, MMMMM” while we ate. (that’s yummy sounds, lol) We all declared that it was the most delicious grilled cheese sandwich we’ve ever had. Thank you!

Loved! I did find it a bit salty so next time I would either use garlic powder or low sodium bacon! Will absolutely make again.

  7. I made these tonight for dinner and they were a huge hit! I did one bowl of the cream cheese & jalepeno mix per the recipe instructions & one bowl with only one jalepeno for those in my family who don’t like as much spice, and both made great sandwiches. I will definitely be making these again!

    1. Hi Stephan. Have you ever used coconut oil before toasting bread? I scoop some out and put on both sides before toasting. Pretty damn good 😊
