After taking a bite of this Spicy Candied Bacon BLT, you may never use regular bacon for your BLTs again! Seriously, it is such a step up in flavor and, of course, spice! I knew when I made the spicy candied bacon that I had to try it in other recipes, and this is a great start. For another elevated version of the classic sandwich, I also have a BLT with Bacon Tomato Jam you will want to try.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Bread: I used toasted white bread for my BLTs, but you could use your favorite kind of bread. Sourdough bread would be a delicious option!
- Mayonnaise: I like to add a little tanginess from mayonnaise to each of my sandwiches. If you don’t have any on hand, make your own!
- Spicy Candied Bacon: For the star of this recipe, let me introduce you to my spicy candied bacon! Yes, it lives up to its name–it IS spicy, but still so flavorful. It’s a must-try if you love spicy foods. I guess the name of the sandwich would have to be updated…how does a SCBLT sound to you?!?
- Lettuce: Romaine lettuce is my go-to when it comes to BLTs. But, iceberg lettuce works fine, too. Or, switch it up and try a little spinach on the sandwich.
- Tomatoes: Beefsteak tomatoes are nice and big, perfect for slicing and adding to the sandwich. Roma or Heirloom tomatoes would also work.
How To Perfectly Toast Bread
Instead of simply putting slices of bread into your toaster, go a step further to get the best-toasted bread for this incredible sandwich! To do this, use an air fryer or skillet. Here is how:
- Generously butter both sides of each slice of bread.
- Then, working in batches, toast each slice in an air fryer for 3-4 minutes at 400°F, flipping the slice(s) halfway through.
- Or, use a skillet over medium-low heat to toast the bread for 1-2 minutes per side.
You will never just use boring toast again!
Can I Make The Spicy Candied Bacon Ahead Of Time?
Yes! You can certainly get the spicy candied bacon made in advance. Then, it is ready to go when you are ready to assemble the BLT. Once it is made, let the bacon cool completely. Next, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to add the bacon to the sandwich, reheat it in the oven, skillet, or air fryer. Using a microwave would work, but that could make the bacon soggy.
What To Serve With A Spicy Candied Bacon BLT
Here are a few delicious options to serve with a spicy candied bacon BLT:
- Wedge Salad
- Coleslaw
- Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
- Homemade Potato Chips
- Roasted Tomato Soup (I also have Air Fryer Roasted Tomato Soup)
- Grilled Corn on the Cob
How To Store Spicy Candied Bacon BLTs
To store spicy candied bacon BLTs, store each part in separate containers. The mayonnaise, candied bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes should all be kept refrigerated. If the bread has already been toasted, keep it in a breathable container or bag. Lightly toast it again when ready to assemble the sandwich.

What the Test Kitchen had to say about this recipe:
Autumn
This is my new favorite way to eat a BLT! I may never use regular bacon again!
Elizabeth
I loved our spicy candied bacon on its own, so I knew I would love it on a BLT! (Autumn actually had mentioned the BLT idea right away.) The bacon is spicy, so keep that in mind. But, it adds so much flavor!
Bella
The candied bacon gave this sandwich a nice crunch and a lot of heat, which balanced well with the classic BLT ingredients. It's a fun twist on a traditional favorite, for sure, but pretty spicy!!
Annabelle
I can see why people would like this version of a BLT. It is a little spicy for me, but I could handle a couple of bites!
Selena
This sandwich is a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory. I can't wait to share it with my family and see what they think!
